Regional Family Justice Center
Internship & Externship Program
ANNUAL REPORT 2025
The Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center is committed to developing the next
generation of professionals through hands-on internship and externship opportunities.
Students in social work, criminal justice, law, and related fields gain experience in case
management, legal support, and trauma-informed, survivor-centered care under the
guidance of experienced staff.
This program expands our capacity to serve clients while strengthening the future
workforce dedicated to supporting survivors and building safer communities.
My experience as an intern at the Sacramento Family Justice Center has been one of the most meaningful and
transformative chapters of my journey into social work. From the very beginning, I could feel that this was more than
just a practicum site, it was a place where healing, resilience, and hope come together under one roof.

Walking into the center each day, I was surrounded by a team of professionals who genuinely care about the people
they serve. I had the opportunity to witness firsthand how survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and
other forms of trauma are supported with compassion and dignity. What stood out to me the most was the way
services are coordinated; clients don't have to navigate complicated systems alone. Instead, they are met with
warmth, understanding and a team that works collaboratively to meet their needs.
As an intern, I have been both challenged and supported. I learned how to engage with clients in a trauma-informed
way, practicing active listening and empathy while being mindful of boundaries There were moments that were
emotionally heavy, hearing the stories of pain and survival, but those moments were also balanced by witnessing
incredible strength and resilience. It reminded me why I chose this field.
The staff and supervisors played a huge role in my growth. They created a safe space for me to ask questions, reflect,
and develop my professional identity. The sense of belonging gave me the confidence to step outside of my comfort
zone and truly engage in the work.
Being a part of the Sacramento Family Justice Center has changed me. It has shown me what it really means to serve
with compassion, to lead with empathy, and to never underestimate the power of support and human connection. I
will carry theses lessons with me throughout my career.
